Small Private Practice Available
in Southern Vermont
This office has enabled me to practice on my own terms and gives me the satisfaction of knowing that I have provided excellent care to my folks over these past 16 years.
North Bennington is a lovely quintessential New England Village. To learn more about this great place to live and work please see The Fund for North Bennington
Practice scope and business details:
Wood and Hearst MD in North Bennington, VT is a small private practice in North Bennington Vermont. We have just over 1000 patients. The practice is mostly office based. We do some home visits and nursing home work, but we use the very competent hospitalist service at our excellent local hospital, SVMC, which is 5 miles away in Bennington and now a Dartmouth Health affiliate.
We each take our own call unless on vacation and calls are extremely rare. We have an awesome full time nurse case manager and several folks who help out with billing, filing, bookkeeping, and IT a couple hours a week
We are about 30% VT medicaid which pays PCPs pretty well, 30% medicare, 30% BCBS and 10% other privates and a few self pay. We are part of OneCare Vermont (Vermont’s ACO) and through them we are about 30% capitated, which was very helpful through the pandemic. We are a PCMH, which provides some subsidy of my nurse’s salary through the Blueprint for Health.
Our EMR is Amazing Charts which we use with the document manager Updox. Updox also provides our patient portal, virtual visit platform, automatic reminders and patient texting capacity. We bill through EZClaim which smoothly accepts exported data from Amazing Charts.
We rent the office. I would pass on our furnishings and medical equipment for a small cost. I do not expect any other remuneration.
Our patients:
We are a popular practice. There is great demand for PCPs here, but we have not taken any significant number of new folks on for years.
Our patients are a diverse and grateful group. They are accustomed to supporting their own care with an active patient portal, on line self-scheduling and a morning walk-in time.
What it has been like:
Running the office and caring for our folks has been a lot of work. It has paid me better than when I was in a group private practice but not as well as if I were employed.
Most importantly, this office has enabled me to practice on my own terms. Because of that freedom, I have been able to create a very satisfying work environment and together we provide provides excellent care to our patients. Because I am in charge of my schedule and my panel size, I been able to take ample family vacations, and very rarely miss any of my children’s events.
If you were to take on this practice, I would be around for transition support and vacation coverage. Please feel free to contact me directly at aw@averywoodmd.net.
